Spartan

Mar 28th, 2009 | By Yorick

Here is what I remember about ancient Spartan military practices: when boys are born, their mothers dunk them in wine. If they survive, they are then given to administrators who decide whether the kids are worthy of the Spartan heritage…the whole ten fingers, ten toes test. If not, they are killed.

Kansas Must Be Pissed

Mar 24th, 2009 | By Yorick

Looking through the news today in hopes of finding something funny or simply ludicrous to talk about, my normal sites and blogs revealed nothing of hope so I turned to the Fox News website instead. Now, let me point out that I love Fox News. I love it for all the wrong reasons. Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity are beyond belief for so many reasons—and a little piece of me truly did die when I found out he is a New York Times #1 bestseller.

When I saw that the Fox News website has a section devoted to evolution, I was flabbergasted. There is a joke here. There are a lot of jokes there, really, and you can figure them out for yourselves.

Hardhat Heroes

Yes, he does hold numerous world records and a staggering eight gold medals from last year’s Summer Olympics in Beijing, but at the end of the day apparently a little marijuana and a bong still do make his heart grow fonder.
That is not the case for USA Swimming, the nation’s governing [...]

Pop Culture…in 3D!!!

Feb 10th, 2009 | By Yorick

THIS weekend marks the release of Coraline, which is probably a very good movie. Some of you might not be aware that it is also released in 3D, aptly titled as Coraline 3D. If you are under the impression that I was being sarcastic about the ‘aptly’, you’re right. This whole 3D business is really starting to bother me.

Coraline 3D marks the second movie released requiring five-dollar plastic glasses in as many months. That would be fine, except there is also the SOBE Super Bowl commercial and that Chuck episode, both also broadcast in that extra little dimension. There is also, some of you might not know, a popular mod for the game Left 4 Dead that translates everything into 3D.
